2.3 Group Red (UNDP/NAP GN)
Funders will interact with country teams to listen to project ideas and advise on next steps towards financing.
Objectives
- To enable participating countries to showcase their priority adaptation investments, identified through their NAP/NDC processes
- To offer funders and financiers the opportunity to outline their investment priorities, financing instruments, and advise countries on how to access these instruments
- To enable countries and funders to engage directly to explore concrete opportunities for financing priority adaptation investments through focused “matchmaking” discussions
- To agree on specific follow up actions and responsibilities that will enable countries and funders to continue advancing priority adaptation investments after the event
Symposium Preparation, Format and Follow-up
To ensure that the Symposium leads to focused and productive matchmaking discussions, participating countries and funders will be invited to undertake preparatory activities ahead of the event. The NAP Global Network and UNDP will provide clear guidance, simple templates, and technical support to help participants prepare effectively, while ensuring that ownership of the content remains fully with them.
Each country will be asked to identify 3-4 priority adaptation investments they wish to present to funders. To strengthen the quality and relevance of the discussions, countries will be encouraged to prioritise investments that:
- are firmly anchored in their NAP processes, reflecting national or sectoral adaptation priorities;
- address clearly defined climate risks or vulnerabilities, with a strong climate rationale;
- are at a stage where funder engagement can meaningfully advance them, such as concepts that need refinement, pre-feasibility analysis, structuring support, or Accredited Entity identification;
- have a realistic financing pathway, including a clear sense of the type of support needed (e.g., grant, readiness, concessional finance, technical assistance for design, etc.)
Agenda
The symposium is organized into three sessions:
Session 3: Country Marketplace Activity
- Introduction and reminder of objectives
- Marketplace activity: Each country has a stall, and funders and technical support providers tour the room, visiting all country stalls to discuss the priority project and discuss in-depth the financing opportunities, technical support needs, opportunities and challenges faced, etc.
- Marketplace plenary: Country feedback to the whole group on discussions they have had, priorities for follow up
- Closing reflections
